Mansfield Giants are Mansfield’s Premier Basketball
Club, and have a 3 star Accreditation and Club Mark from the English
Sports Council.
The Club was originally formed in 1990, but through
recent expansion and development Giants expect to have a big future
and aim to become a major player in British basketball over the
coming years. The 2006/2007 season sees our men’s and women’s senior
teams both competing in national league basketball.
Home
games take place at the new Oak Tree Leisure Centre in Mansfield,
which is the premier venue in the area seating approximately 300
people. Giants have big plans to fill the arena for each home game
and aim to provide opportunities for families to enjoy a lively
evening of high class sporting action. Typically cheerleaders,
lively music, mascots, competitions basketball sales, food and
refreshments will create an unique atmosphere.
Giants have strong foundations in the local community
as well as an excellent youth development programme through the
guise of the North Midlands School of Basketball (NMSB) The
programme supports age group teams for boys and girls, schools
programmes and community coaching in order to provide a suitable
pathway for the best young talent in the North Midlands to progress
through the playing ranks. The programme provide links to Mansfield,
Bolsover and Ashfield School Sports Partnerships, and through its
association with Staveley Scorpions Basketball Club a growing
partnership with Staveley Neighbourhood Management Partnership in
Chesterfield
